Test Capacity Doubles at Kansas City Pump Manufacturing Plant

KANSAS CITY, Kansas - July 12, 2010   With a $2.3 million investment, Pentair, a global manufacturer and
provider of unique solutions for pump systems in municipal, commercial and industrial markets, has doubled the
large pump testing capacity at its Kansas City, Kansas, manufacturing plant.  Construction was recently completed on the Test Floor Expansion Project, which will provide additional deep water testing capability for large
municipal, commercial and industrial products.  The additional capacity was needed to meet the growing customer
demands from the marketplace.

The expansion project broke ground in late January when work began with pile driving for the shoring system.  The construction crew worked in continuous shifts to accommodate an aggressive schedule and limit distractions in the plant.

Pumps with the Fairbanks Morse, Layne/Verti-Line and Aurora pump brands are manufactured in the Pentair Kansas City facility, which opened its doors in 1953.  These are large pumps for use in the municipal, industrial, commercial and fire markets, ranging in type from submersible, solids-handling, vertical turbine, chopper and vortex, split case and propeller, and high pressure membrane feed for reverse osmosis (RO) applications.  Test capabilities for pumps in the new North Test Floor are pumps up to 5000 HP; 230 to 416 volt; 100,000 GPM; 500 HP shop VFD – and a complete “train” test with the customer’s VFD drive, motor, couplings, base and pump; other test factors available are NPSH, temperature, vibration and noise testing.
